Report on IEEE Stall at Connect 2010
Connect 2010, an exposition for Communication Systems and Information Technology, was held from 8 to 10 May 2010 at Expo Centre Karachi, where IEEE Karachi Section exhibited a stall to establish student-industry liaison and inform the public in general, and students and industry professionals in particular, of the rewards and benefits of IEEE Membership. The arrangements for the stall were primarily done by Parakash Lohana, Section Chair, Muhammad Yasir Khan, Section Secretary and Syed Ahmed Fuad, GINI Coordinator. A large number of Student Members from various SBs, assisted by Members of Section Ex-Com, volunteered as stall presenters throughout the three days, skilfully managed by Muhammad Saad of ComSoc. Quite a few visitors were interested in the IEEE Communications Society, ComSoc, as regards to its involvement with the latest technological developments and the Conferences organised by the Society throughout the year. The various benefits of IEEE displayed on appealing posters and other promotional material caught several eyes and scores of visitors filled on-spot IEEE Membership forms. The IEEE Stall presenters gained valuable insight in the market trends in Communications and IT and interacted with various industry professionals, forging important links. Bilal Husain, a student volunteer, said, ‘Connect2010 gave me an opportunity to interact with different people from various fields. It was a great experience to meet some of our potential future employers.’ Sidra of Bahria University said, ‘The event was a chance to interact with great personalities like IT directors of organisations, professors and students of different universities, and we shared the latest benefits of student membership of IEEE.’ At the end of the three-day event the exhibition organisers presented a shield to the IEEE Members as a token of appreciation.
